How Saying Yes to Play Brings More Joy Into My Life

Lately, I’ve been reminding myself of something simple but powerful: it’s okay to do things just for fun. Life is full of responsibilities, routines, and “shoulds,” but sometimes the most meaningful moments come from simply saying yes to play. Recently, I gave myself permission to do something purely for joy and it reminded me how important it is to make space for the things that light us up, even if it’s just for an afternoon.

That’s how I found myself at a pottery wheel, hands covered in clay, laughing at how much I had no idea what I was doing. For once, there was no goal, no pressure, just the simplicity of creating and enjoying the process.

My first pottery bowl made on the Potters Wheel!

Making Pottery and using the Potters Wheel was something my 17 year old daughter and I had wanted to do for some time but I hadn’t ever really looked into it seriously. So this summer I decided now was the time to just do it!

We had so much fun together over the 2 and a half hours and there was only three of us which meant we got fantastic support from the teacher at 7 Limes Studio.

The class we took was also teaching hand building techniques and although I was apprehensive as to whether I’d enjoy it as much as the wheel I was pleasantly surprised. It was also a lot simpler to make a plate than I first thought.

It was such a lovely activity for us to do together and something we both agreed we would like to return to.

I really believe that creativity can be anything we want - we don’t have to be good at it and it doesn't have to be something we aim to master - it can just simply be something we do for fun!

So, what are you planning this month just for fun?
